Design for living

Design work is an iterative, creative process. It is a journey of adding, subtracting, and curating to yield balance and symmetry in each space as well as throughout the home.

As highlighted in the chart above, we play with different elements that balance each other out. Even within any given element, there are options that can tilt the scale’s balance in one direction or another. An example is the element of metal - there are colder expressions of metal (like bright and shiny finishes - or silver) and warmer ones (like vintage or matte finishes or brass hues).

We are currently working on a kitchen that started out full of marble and mirrored glass and white walls + cabinets + counters, and shiny silver - and the room faces North which means cooler light - so it really needs some warming up! We are keeping the beautiful marble countertops, the sturdy custom cabinetry and the high end appliances, and we’re adding elements to cozy-up the space: wallpaper, new pendant lights (ceramic, wood, jute); a cozy couch flanking one side of a new oval table; a gallery of oil paintings hung at eye level; vintage brass drawer pulls and handles; and a rich Farrow & Ball paint on the cabinetry. Below is a “Before” photo - We can’t wait to show you the “After”!

The kitchen “Before”… many cold elements… we’re warming it up! Stay tuned for the “After”…
